Good bye to the Christmas letter

Every December since we got married we've wanted to write a Christmas letter to let friends and family know how we're doing. After almost four years of marriage we still haven't written a single one. About a year ago we decided to start a blog instead, in the hopes that writing a short monthly update would be easier than sitting down to write a summary of a whole year. But as it turns out, writing anything - long or short - that isn't urgent just tends to get postponed. With the arrival of our first child, however, we finally have a reason to write on a regular basis because this way she will one day be able to read about a time in her life that she can't remember. Therefore this entry finally marks the beginning of the Hoge family blog.
